Title: DANCING WITH DEATH Pdf An Epic and Inspiring Travel Adventure
Two men, three years, seven countries, 3000 miles...

The Central American Sea Kayak Expedition 2000 (CASKE2000) is an inspiring journey of exploration, endurance, and self-discovery that takes Jean-Philippe Soulé and his traveling partner Luke Shullenberger from Baja California all the way to Panama.

During this unfathomably grueling expedition, they will face every manner of threat, from sharks, crocodiles, and bandits to stormy seas, malaria, and their own mortality all in search of a deeper connection to Mother Nature and the indigenous people who revere her most.

This is a tale of adventure, sacrifice, and physical endurance that will leave you breathless with excitement, mourning for our heroes' losses, and cheering their successes. The evocative, gripping narrative coupled with countless, award-worthy photographs makes this a must-read for those who love travel, outdoor adventure, and the exploration of other cultures.

But most of all, it's for the dreamers who've been told they can't, and stubbornly refuse to listen.

Exciting Adventure DANCING WITH DEATH: An Epic and Inspiring Travel Adventure Jean-Philippe Soulé is a great re-telling of an epic adventure experienced by two friends. Jean-Philippe Soulé and Luke Shullenberger kayaked from Baja, California all the way to Panama in this exciting and revealing book. Written in alternating viewpoints in a journal style, we learn of their various adventures, from grilling fish on the perfect tropical island, to encountering the native peoples, and even meeting the Snakeman. Not only are there physical challenges from the long days, but physical danger as well as they come up against alligators, sharks, and more. Exciting, and fast paced, this is a fantastic true story about two men who actually made a decision to experience an adventure of their lives, first hand, down and dirty. The pictures alone are worth reading this book, as they perfectly capture much of the experience. Highly recommend.an enjoyable and gripping tale well told Wow, what a trip! I was looking for references to plan what I thought would be an "adventure" and came across this brand new book. Now, _this_ is an adventure.2 guys do the proverbial "leave everything behind" and spend several years paddling a couple overloaded kayaks from the sea of Cortez to Panama, to go meet local native peoples. I enjoyed the details about the preparation and the "how-tos" of their expedition, as well as the descriptions of the obstacles they faced, and dealt with (from harrowing landings in rough seas, to crocodiles, to armed bandits, to injuries and bouts of sickness, to…), and of the rewards they get (cue in camping on a tropical beach and enjoying a freshly caught fish grilled on a fire), but the book is more than a travel & survival guide - i enjoyed travelling along with them and discovering through their eyes the cultures and the people (and the foods :-) , reading about local remedies, customs, enjoying the colours and flavours of the countries they visited. I only regretted that the black and white pictures don’t do justice to the subjects - but (pro tip :-) the expedition website has a nice photo gallery with even more of them, in glorious colours. The format is interesting - the book alternates between the journals of Jean-Philippe and Luke, so we get their two points of view, in their different voices. The tone is intimate, very personal, 2 buddies sharing their stories with me, sitting by a campfire enjoying some local fermented brew.Tldr - an enjoyable tale well told, a gripping story full of danger and emotions, to discover native peoples of Central America. Two thumbs (and a paddle) up.Get taken along for the adventure of a lifetime! This book will more than excite a variety of readers. If you love travel adventures, long distance kayaking, stories about overcoming the odds, or learning about other cultures then Dancing With Death comes highly recommended. The main premise is around discovering, documenting, and preserving the planet and the culture of its indigenous peoples. After reading it I felt entertained, educated, and invigorated. It actually made me do some thinking about what small ways I might better focus helping reverse some of the negative trends impacting our planet and also about how I might accomplish more. And its so full of information and suspense - around challenging kayaking conditions, terrors in the water, tropical disease, and threatening people - I could not put Dancing With Death down till I had finished the book. An epic story well told!

"What I love about this book is that it brings healthy ingredients to the forefront, without being snobby. The section on keto-friendly alternatives is particularly useful, and every recipe is just 6 carbs! That’s some no-brainer type of keto stuff I can get behind."—Amanda C. Hughes, Keto Cook at WickedStuffed.com, author of Keto Life and The Wicked Good Ketogenic Diet

Eating healthier, losing weight, and trimming your waistline―no matter what your reasons for following the ketogenic diet are, starting is never as simple as it sounds. Equipping you with easy-to-follow meal plans, shopping lists, and need-to-know info about the keto lifestyle, The Complete Ketogenic Diet for Beginners is your all-in-one resource for starting and sticking to the ketogenic diet. Key into keto and learn how good it can feel to lose weight and lead a healthy lifestyle with The Complete Ketogenic Diet for Beginners cookbook.

The Complete Ketogenic Diet for Beginners cookbook contains:

  • 75 Easy to Follow Recipes using five main ingredients or less for every meal
  • 14-Day Meal Plan jump-starting your ketogenic diet with shopping lists and balanced meals
  • A Complete Overview explaining the fundamentals of the ketogenic diet and advice for living the keto-lifestyle
  • Handy Charts  illustrating calories and nutritional information

Recipes in The Complete Ketogenic Diet for Beginners include: Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie, Bacon-Artichoke Omelet, Chicken-Avocado Lettuce Wraps, Rosemary-Garlic Lamb Racks, Pesto Zucchini Noodles, Nutty Shortbread Cookies, and much more!

Endorsed by the Mayo Clinic and others in the medical community, the ketogenic diet has been proven as a healthy, effective way of achieving weight loss, as it consists of low-carb, high fat foods that prompt the body to burn fat for energy instead of glucose.

It has it all! Diet outline, menus, nutritional values, shopping lists & recipes! This book is split into 3 parts: The Ketogenic Lifestyle, The 14-day Meal Plan, and the recipes. Before this book, I really didn't fully understand what a Ketogenic Diet was. Chapter 1 defines it for me in 4 words, Low-Carb, High-Fat. This diet promotes fresh whole foods and healthy fats & oils, and cuts out processed, chemically treated foods. It also tells you that when you start a Keto Diet, you'll most likely experience the Keto-Flu!Chapter 2 - Go Keto in 5 steps. 1-clean out your pantry. Egads! No dates or peas, 2 of my favorites! 2-Go shopping and stock up on the basics- water, coffee, tea, spices, herbs, non-sugar sweeteners, lemon & lime juice, mayo, mustard, pesto, sriracha, broths, pickled foods, nuts & seeds, meats, eggs, wild caught fish, nonstarchy veggies, berries, avocados, full fat dairy, avocado oil, olive oil, butter, lard, bacon fat. 3-set up your kitchen with a food scale, food processor, spiralizer, hand mixer, and cast iron pan. 4- plan your meals, and 5 -exercise!Part 2, the 14 day meal plan, not only gives you the meal outline for the week for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, and dinner, but it gives you the nutritional breakdown of calories, fat, protein, carbs, fiber & net carbs, it then gives you what page to find the recipe on, THEN it gives you a weekly shopping list! Bonus!Info about keto diet great - recipes not so much The information in the first section was great, but the recipes were not as helpful as I had hoped. The ingredients are very expensive - I spent $130 shopping for just the first three days of meals and that didn't include the leg of lamb, which I skipped. Also, as a working mom, I would consider the amount of kitchen time as extreme. As an example, Day One includes a one-hour baking project for breakfast, followed by deviled eggs with bacon and avocado as a mid-morning snack, followed by a cooked chicken lunch, then a smoothie mid-afternoon snack, and a leg of lamb dinner with a side. Again, that's just the first day. Section 1 was great and I learned a great deal about keto lifestyle and issues. I would love the author to revise the meal plan and recipe sections to limit each day to no more than 90 minutes in the kitchen including prepping foods like boiling eggs, frying bacon, or cooking chicken which aren't currently included in her recipes times.

When Death Becomes Life Free Pdf

ISBN: B078R3NY26
Title: When Death Becomes Life Pdf Notes from a Transplant Surgeon

"With When Death Becomes Life, Joshua Mezrich has performed the perfect core biopsy of transplantation—a clear and compelling account of the grueling daily work, the spell-binding history and the unsettling ethical issues that haunt this miraculous lifesaving treatment. Mezrich's compassionate and honest voice, punctuated by a sharp and intelligent wit, render the enormous subject not just palatable but downright engrossing."—Pauline Chen, author of Final Exam: A Surgeon’s Reflections on Mortality

A gifted surgeon illuminates one of the most profound, awe-inspiring, and deeply affecting achievements of modern day medicine—the movement of organs between bodies—in this exceptional work of death and life that takes its place besides Atul Gawande’s Complications, Siddhartha Mukherjee’s The Emperor of All Maladies, and Jerome Groopman’s How Doctors Think.

At the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Joshua Mezrich creates life from loss, transplanting organs from one body to another. In this intimate, profoundly moving work, he illuminates the extraordinary field of transplantation that enables this kind of miracle to happen every day.

When Death Becomes Life is a thrilling look at how science advances on a grand scale to improve human lives. Mezrich examines more than one hundred years of remarkable medical breakthroughs, connecting this fascinating history with the inspiring and heartbreaking stories of his transplant patients. Combining gentle sensitivity with scientific clarity, Mezrich reflects on his calling as a doctor and introduces the modern pioneers who made transplantation a reality—maverick surgeons whose feats of imagination, bold vision, and daring risk taking generated techniques and practices that save millions of lives around the world.

Mezrich takes us inside the operating room and unlocks the wondrous process of transplant surgery, a delicate, intense ballet requiring precise timing, breathtaking skill, and at times, creative improvisation. In illuminating this work, Mezrich touches the essence of existence and what it means to be alive. Most physicians fight death, but in transplantation, doctors take from death. Mezrich shares his gratitude and awe for the privilege of being part of this transformative exchange as the dead give their last breath of life to the living. After all, the donors are his patients, too.

When Death Becomes Life also engages in fascinating ethical and philosophical debates: How much risk should a healthy person be allowed to take to save someone she loves? Should a patient suffering from alcoholism receive a healthy liver? What defines death, and what role did organ transplantation play in that definition? The human story behind the most exceptional medicine of our time, Mezrich’s riveting book is a beautiful, poignant reminder that a life lost can also offer the hope of a new beginning.

Worth reading After hearing an interview with the author on NPR, I immediately ordered the book. You would kinda think that a book about organ donation would be obscure and dry. But as the author states in the acknowledgements, he learned from some of the similar best selling medical books to come out recently, and indeed he has. He's taken a relatively obscure subject and using deft narrative techniques, made the subject a page-turner. The first time he described (in detail) a surgical procedure, I had to speed read through it. By the end, I was re-reading these passages to make sure I understood what was going on. He covers the development of transplantation and dialysis which was as engrossing as the history of flight. He covers the pioneers with due reverence. In public service, he repeatedly puts donors, both alive and deceased, to the forefront as the true heroes, without whom he would have to find another line of work. I admit I have a bias as I am awaiting a kidney transplant, but well worth the read even if you are untouched by transplant issues. Essential reading if you are.Wonderful, wonderful book This book tells it like it is and in such a wonderful way, I loved the writers style. You will learn so much about transplant surgery even if you ate not a medical person . I am a nurse and paramedic and I learned so much and especially about the history of organ transplant , thank God we live in this age, after you read this book you will never say the phrase the "good old days" thank you Dr.Mezrich. Daunn MunnIf you or someone you know has had a transplant or waiting on one you should read this book. This book is a must read it is awesome!! If you know anything about transplants you can tell this book is not only from the surgeons experience but also from his heart!
