Ponderous... Couldn't finish Sorry but not into this style of writing. Didn't feel a connection to any of the character... Some felt more like cartoon characters (Shoshanna). Difficult to follow storyline with many characters being involved and when switching from one character's storyline to another... was not smooth. Way too much detail when it wasn't needed. There has only been two other books I've given up on, can now make that three.Exciting! As always another hard to put down. Loved the different start and development of the story. Pike and Koko kept flow of the action moving as always but the crazy Lady continued to fast forward the story and throw in continued surprises as she tries drive Pike off the deep end. Looking forward to forward to forward to the next book.Another Pike Logan Best Seller This is another exceptional 'Pike Logan' story from Brad Taylor. While I am somewhat prejudice,hsving read all of the books and short stories by Brad Taylor, his novel 'Operator Down' did not disappoint. This 'Pike Logan' thriller picks up only a couple of months after the end of Taylor's latest short story 'The Infiltrator' where Aaron and Shoshana get married. Now Aaron is on a non-Mossad mission to South Africa for the Diamond Exchange. Brad Taylor works Pike and Jennifer into a mission tracking an American arms dealer in Tel Aviv where they attempt a social (lunch) meeting with Shoshana. This leads to a rather interesting encounter where Pike and Jennifer help break up an attempt at killing Shoshana but she is suspicious that Pike is somehow involved in setting her up. I particularly enjoyed the setting within Lesotho with the comparison to the Italian microstate of San Marino. Taylor puts together a number of credible threats that are woven into the Taskforce's mission through a little manipulation by Curt Hale. I gavethis book five stars and highly recommend it.

A Life Changing Book I couldn't have found a better book to read right now. As someone with an adult child in recovery, this book gave me new insight that affirms my decision earlier this year to regulary attend a 12 step group, not only to support my daughter, but to make deep changes in myself. Russell Brand points out that we are all on the addiction scale in some area of our lives. He urges doing inner work so that addictions of all kinds. . . . drug, alcohol, sex, food, gambling, even internet/phone. Anything that we use to distract us from facing our emotions and making needed changes in our life - anything we do to numb ourselves can become something worth closer examination. His book follows the "12 Steps" but goes into specifics in a way that is both personal to him and identifiable to every reader. I was so moved by the changes he has made in the past 14 years of his sobriety. The fact that he faces his demons every day . . . . and is willing to share the inner tools that have worked so well for him makes the price of this book and the time to read it very worthwhile. The inner soul searching he has done makes me eager to do my own.Russell is so real! I bought this book because I am in intern counselor who deals with clients with substance abuse. I also used it in my bibliography assignment for my counseling class. It took me about a month to finish it because I was taking notes but it was worth the read. I gave it 4 stars because sometimes Russell's references to things are lost in translation as an American reader and sometimes he does go off a bit on tangents. That said, aside from maybe needing a bit of a tighter editor and more universal dialogue, it was a great read. I really liked how he broke down The 12 Steps and made it understandable to people who aren't necessarilly in AA and or people who don't want to read "The Book". I especially liked how humble Russell was when he wrote his story and shared about others as well. He really is quite authentic, real, genuine etc. He's flawed, just like the rest of us and is not afraid to admit it. I would recommend this book to any reader wanting to familiarize themselves with the steps as well as anyone struggling with some kind of addiction. Russell makes it clear that to some degree, we all struggle with an addiciton, it may be shopping, over eating, movies/series on TV, sex, porn, exercise (even that can be bad for you if done in excess), drinking, pain killers, work, etc. He also shares his spiritual side, information on meditation/mindfulness and overall, just how to be a more aware, awake and compassionate person. If some of you are familiar with who/how Russell was about 15 years ago, he's really (to steal Virginia Slim's phrase) come a long way. He's a much more mature, kind, compassionate, empathetic, awake, aware, wise, humbled, husband, father and son. Thank you Russell Brand for encouraging others to be a better version of themselves and to stop stigmatizing people with addictions.Get this book :) This is exactly exactly the sort of person I need to be "talking" to. Or listening to, or reading--what have you. Having recovered from more serious addictions 30+ years ago, I now find myself addicting to shopping! Yikes!!! If you are addicted to ANYTHING, from shopping to narcotics, and we all have addictions (believe me), you should find this book beneficial. For me, it's just great to be "communicating" with another hardball player with a sense of humor.

Skip it I love Hollywood gossip so I was really looking forward to reading this. What a disappointment. Nothing new to reveal and I got incredibly tired of Howard Hughes repeated conquests. Had to force myself to finish it and felt like a shower afterward cuz he was such scum. Read Noah Dietrich’s book about Hughes instead. It seems like this is a compilation of a lot of current ... The title is a bit misleading -- it requires will power to implement his ideas. It seems like this is a compilation of a lot of current ideas out there on mindfulness and self improvement. I think the premise that environment matters is generally accepted and not revolutionary. Some of the ideas seem to be for very specific individuals and may not be your goals (minimalist living, never working in the same place two days in a row, working two weeks on and two weeks off, etc). Ultimately I think this book has good ideas to make you more productive -- it's a quick read and you can pull out ideas you think may be helpful to yourself and your goals (and yes, some will power required).If you've read his articles you have most of this book already. If you have read his articles then you know much of the book already. Although he says willpower doesn't work, it is part of the 100% commitment and working through your fears. His write-up on journaling and planning are very clear--I think more than his articles. I was looking for something to set some personal goals for myself, but this doesn't really address goals that are not business related. He talks about the growth mindset in terms of adaptive learn which is probably one of the best parts of the book. Most of his examples are for business as well. I don't see anything new in the book. If you just want to do something to help you with goals like losing weight or working on your personal finances, this isn't it. I think it could have been a better book if he did something on those types of goals as well as business. Also, he does mention getting the skin in the game either with finances or social implications. How many of use have paid for an expensive gym membership and told all our friends we were going to get buff and then a few months later we are on the couch. Maybe money and social pressures make some people motivated but not that many.Quit being stubborn and find the easier path.... For those of you that are stubborn and think you can force things to happen (like me), this book will blow your mind. If you aren't serious and just want to dip your toe in, go read some of Ben's articles on Medium (was the #1 writer there at the time of this post). I started there and have traveled way down the rabbit hole. If your goal is to improve any aspect of your life, this is a book you need to read. For me, it's now on my annual list of books to reread every year to make sure I'm headed in the right direction.Full disclosure: I was able to receive an early version of this book via pdf, but I know I need my own version to write notes/highlights in so I've already purchased my own version.
